Because It’s Already Tuesday…And You Should Know!

Every Tuesday I share some key stuff I wish, as a parent, someone would just place right in my hand.  I don’t want to search for it, or read a bunch of packets.  Honestly, who has the time?  You get them on Tuesdays because, at least for me, life is just too hectic on Mondays.  It also gives you enough time to do something before Friday.  I hope you find it helpful.

So, here’s what you should know is going on in your Broward education world and around the nation:

It’s National School Choice Week!

This week we celebrate educational options.  Whether you have registered your kids at the local public school (like mine), charter school or have the wherewithal for homeschooling like one of our Faces moms, it’s great to know your choices.  Faces of Education celebrates effective schools for every child!

Get more information about what’s happening in Broward at the School Choice Week website

Broward Schools’ Choice Window Closes February 8th

School Choice includes Magnet programs and reassignments to suit your child and family’s needs.  Explore your options, apply and track your status on the Broward Schools website.

Broward TURNS UP the Focus on Early Literacy this week

Over the last 2 years, our partnership community (including BCPS, Children Services Council, Broward County Library and many community partners) have zeroed in on early literacy with the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.  Reading by the 3rd grade is the MOST important predictor of high school graduation and career success.

Learn about the progress, and how to jump on board, as our entire community takes ownership getting our kids reading at or above grade level by the 3rd grade.

Also, this week Broward Schools joins the Let’s Read, Florida! initiative by kicking off of Florida Literacy Week.  Learn what your school is doing.  You can be a Guest Reader at your child’s school, or just talk about it with them when they get home.

Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education

Regardless of which side of the fence you are on, stay abreast of the confirmation of the most controversial nominee for education secretary in a very long time.  Learn about Betsy DeVos and how her appointment may influence you and your child.  Here are some good and bad opinions.

Happy Tuesday everyone.  Walk good!
