See? This is my fear when we make standards different in each state. New research shows that ‘A’ grades are going up while SAT scores and college graduation rates are headed downward. But why?
What does this mean? Is it that SAT’s are harder? Or, have we made it easier to earn an ‘A’? This recent USA Today article would support the latter.
New ESSA standards, where states get to create their own criteria to tell us if schools and students are doing well, will make these questions even harder to answer. Comparison data will be next to impossible to digest.
And, apparently, the only ones left holding the bag are our kids who are less prepared for college.
What do you think?
