Yup, It’s TUESDAY! And, Here’s What You Need To Know.

It’s been a fast and heavy week everyone.  And, as usually, every Tuesday I share the top 5 (or less) things you need to know in your Broward education world and beyond.  It’s go-to reading in the palm of your hand.

It comes to you on Tuesday because, frankly, life is too hectic on a Monday.  And, it also gives you time to DO something before Friday.  I hope you find it helpful.  Here we go…

TODAY a Senate Committee Votes on the Nomination of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary

This Michigan philanthropist and huge school choice advocate sat through very controversial hearings earlier this month.  Despite strong opposition from education organizations, state legislators and civil rights groups, it is very likely Ms. DeVos will be approved today.  How could this affect you, and the future of education as you know it?  Check out her track record in Michigan.

Hot Off the Presses! Broward Schools Strategic Plan for 2016-2019

It might sound boring to you, but it’s not.  You need to know the roadmap the district has drawn for our kids for the next few years.  It’s colorful, easy to read and available in interactive PDF for your perusal.

My interest peaked in the “High Quality Instruction” topics of Literacy and Middle Grades Learning.  I was also happy to see goals for communication with families and the community in general.  The introduction to Applied Learning is fascinating.  And, yes, it’s filled with the usually testimonials, but there are some very useful infographics.

Thursday, 2/2 is “Take Your Daughters & Sons to Work Day”

If you haven’t signed the paperwork, or told your employer about this yet, today is the day! Any student over the age of 8 can spend the day with their parent/guardian/relative/designee at work.

This is a perfect time to expose kids to career options, teach workplace etiquette, or just let them see where you spend 8+ hours away from them.  The lessons are endless.
